Portsmouth City Council meets tonight, and it will consider a supplemental appropriation aimed at re-opening Fire Station #3. The 150 thousand dollar proposal would come from undesignated fund balances. Memorial Bridge Demolition Begins

The dismantling of the 2-million-pound lift span on the Memorial Bridge has now been postponed until tomorrow. That’s being preceded today by the closure of the Piscataqua River around the bridge, one that will last for 72 hours. Broadband Network Project Makes Progress

2 No Child Bills Considered in NH

Maine Turnpike officials are trying to get more people to use the turnpike's electronic toll collection system.

The Maine Turnpike Authority says it's reducing the price of the E-ZPass windshield transponders from $25 to $10 to promote use of E-ZPass.

Maine legislators working toward a bipartisan agreement to fill a $221 million state budget hole are making progress.

The Appropriations Committee has finalized $25 million in savings recommended by a special task force. In addition, lawmakers OKd more than a dozen other initiatives to cut the budget.

Penguin Plunge Nets Nearly 700K

Organizers say more than 1,100 people plunged into the Atlantic Ocean for the annual Penguin Plunge and raised more than $688,000 for Special Olympics New Hampshire.

The event at Hampton Beach was held over the weekend. About 400 teens took the challenge on Saturday. Adults took the plunge yesterday.

ME Bill Would Limit Bait Options

It may soon be against the law in Maine to bait lobster traps with almost anything that's not part of a lobster's natural diet.

The Legislature's Marine Resources Committee unanimously endorsed the bill. It is expected to be approved by the House and Senate.

Somersworth Housing Theft

Somersworth Police Department is investigating what they are calling an internal theft at the Somersworth Housing Authority.

Police say in excess of 100-thousand dollars is missing and a suspect has been identified. The suspect was employed at the Housing Authority at the time of the thefts. Somersworth police say they were alerted to the theft the Director of Somersworth Housing, Elizabeth Salinger.

The investigation is ongoing, and will focus on the total amount of money that has been stolen, the duration of the theft, and who was responsible.

 

 

Evacuation Underway


Route 108 in Rochester is closed and area homes are being evacuated. The water tank on Rochester hill is in danger of failing, according to police.

Skydiver Hospitalized in Accident

An unidentified man is in a Boston hospital with serious injuries, after a sky diving accident in Lebanon. The man came to earth in a cow pasture just before 10 yesterday morning. He is said to be an experienced parachutist, with more than 35 hundred jumps to his credit. The victim was first taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital by crews who responded to the scene, just off of Lower Barley Road. He was later transferred by Med flight to the Boston facility. Authorities believe his parachute had opened and was in working order .
